About Waxahachie

South of Dallas you’ll find the beautiful suburban city of Waxahachie. Full of bold Texas flavor and plenty of unique character, Waxahachie’s name comes from Native American words meaning cow or buffalo. Some sources claim that it means “calf’s tail”. Residents and tourists alike can participate in a local tour of “The Gingerbread Trail” through some of the city’s historic neighborhoods. During “The Gingerbread Trail” tour, you will get a tour of five of Waxahachie’s homes that exemplify these beautiful, unique architectural styles.

A popular local event, the Scarborough Renaissance Festival has taken place for nearly forty years each spring. Drawing in crowds from all around the state, this festival is located just south of Waxahachie. For Renaissance Festival fans, this famous local event is a must!

Known for its amazing Downtown Farmers Market, Waxahachie opens up its downtown streets to vendors and farmers from mid-spring through early fall. Thanks for your interest in our scholarship! Every six months, we select the essay that our panel of 3 judges determines to be the best.

The Fall deadline to apply is November 15th. The Fall winner will be announced to all applicants on December 10th.

The Spring deadline to apply is May 15th. The Spring winner will be announced to all applicants on June 10th.

The current essay prompt is, “Who has inspired your education the most and why?”

No purchase necessary to enter or win. Void where prohibited by law. One entry per household per year. Winner will be notified via email on or before the Winner Selection Date. Failure by potential winner to respond to such notification within ten (10) days of notification, or failure by the potential winner to adhere to these Official Rules, will result in disqualification of the potential winner and an alternate winner will be selected.
