About Ventura County

Located within the metropolitan area of Los Angeles, Ventura is a beautiful city located along the Pacific Coast of Southern California. Considered to be a picturesque Californian city, Ventura is the county seat of a county with the same name. The main freeway that runs along the Pacific Coast in this region of California is called the Ventura Freeway. With a rich history, a beautiful backdrop, and many local amenities, Ventura has a lot to offer both residents and tourists.

Long before the Spanish explorers arrived in this area in the late 1700s, this land that is now home to Ventura was once home to the Chumash Native American tribe. Once the Spanish arrived, they began establishing missions throughout the region of Southern California. The local mission in Ventura is called Mission San Buenaventura, which was founded in the 1780s. The population has continued to grow since then, with settlements that began centered around the mission.

Thanks to a fresh water source, the local Ventura River, the agricultural industry thrives in Ventura, even still today. Back in Ventura’s early days when this land was purchased from Mexico, plots of land were sold to farmers and ranchers who wanted a stake in this land. Since then, many farms were sold to make way for new housing developments. In the early 2000s, the population of Ventura saw noticeable growth.

Home to the County Fair each year, Ventura hosts a wide variety of shows during the summer event. The Ventura County Fair brings in many big names, and fair attendees come from across the state of California. With an Amtrak station not far away from the fairgrounds themselves, it is very easy to get to the Ventura County Fair. The fairgrounds here also hosts a number of other events throughout the year, as it is a very popular location.

When it comes to parks and recreational facilities, Ventura is home to many beautiful local parks. Families love living in Ventura because of their well-maintained public parks. Beyond parks, the local beaches are very popular, and Ventura is also known for being a surfer’s paradise.

The local public, private, and charter schools available in Ventura are high quality educational institutions. Beyond high school, Ventura is also home to a number of college campuses. Local Ventura tutors are available to help students in a wide range of subjects and levels of education. These tutors can help each student reach their educational goals.
