About Spring Valley

The small city of Spring Valley is located with San Diego County in Southern California. As one might imagine, Spring Valley’s name comes from a natural spring that was discovered in this region. Families that live in Spring Valley enjoy the slower pace of small town life, while also enjoying easy access and close proximity to all of San Diego’s big city amenities. Many people that live in Spring Valley commute to San Diego for work each day.

Living in Spring Valley is relatively affordable, compared with the surrounding cities in San Diego County. With affordable homes and housing structures, Spring Valley is a very attractive place to live for small families, and that is part of the reason that Spring Valley is such a great commuter town for those who work in San Diego.

Before the Spanish explorers and missionaries arrived to this region, the area that is now Spring Valley belonged to Native Americans. The Kumeyaay people lived here when the Spanish arrived. After driving away the native people, the Spaniards set up cattle ranches and began building a settlement here.

A famous local house, the Bancroft House, is an part-adobe structure that was built by some of the original settlers to Spring Valley. In the middle of the twentieth century, the Bancroft House was opened as a local museum, commemorating historical artifacts and the interesting background of Spring Valley.

The Spring Valley Library provides wonderful resources for residents of Spring Valley. With after school clubs for kids of all ages, the Spring Valley Library provides educational programs as well as great rooms for studying. Homework Help club is great for kids looking for a place to get help with their take-home work. Spring Valley Scholarship


Thanks for your interest in our scholarship! Every six months, we select the essay that our panel of 3 judges determines to be the best.

The Fall deadline to apply is November 15th. The Fall winner will be announced to all applicants on December 10th.

The Spring deadline to apply is May 15th. The Spring winner will be announced to all applicants on June 10th.

The current essay prompt is, “Who has inspired your education the most and why?”

No purchase necessary to enter or win. Void where prohibited by law. One entry per household per year. Winner will be notified via email on or before the Winner Selection Date. Failure by potential winner to respond to such notification within ten (10) days of notification, or failure by the potential winner to adhere to these Official Rules, will result in disqualification of the potential winner and an alternate winner will be selected.
