About Seattle

Travel to Pike Place in Seattle, Washington and you might just get to see fish flying through the air! Did I say fish? Yes, I did and that’s not a typo. Pike Place is a farmer’s market unlike any you’ve ever been to. This market is year round every day, and encompasses blocks of city streets and multi-level buildings. There is something for everyone there, and it’s so large you might just need your Seattle geography tutor to help you navigate!

Back to my original statement in regards to fish, Pike’s Place Fish Market boasts a wide assortment of ocean delicacies suited to any pallet, but even more amazing then that is the show they put on when one is bought. The employees literally toss the fish to each other, and not just little tosses of a foot or two. We are talking major air, long distance tosses, that leave you hoping the other person does catch it. It’s a spectacle people stand around just to see, and watching it might just take up a good chunk of your day.

If you manage to pull yourself away from the fish market, you might come across a shop that sells every type of homemade jelly spreads you could ever imagine, from garlic flavored, to red wine flavored, and everything in between. Don’t worry, you can also try free samples!

When your done taste testing, you might find yourself with a bit of an appetite, and Pike Place has you covered there too. There is a large assortment of food proprietors, however one of the most popular is Piroshky Piroshky, and that’s exactly what they sell. Piroshky’s are a type of Russian pastry, and you can get everything from cheese and beef (their most popular) to desert piroshkies. Don’t be surprised if the line wraps around the block, but not to fret, the line moves fast as these bakers know what they’re doing!

These are just a few examples of dozens upon dozens of wonderful shops that inhabit Pike Place. And did I mention that’s also the place Starbuck’s was founded? That’s right. Starbucks, opened its first store in Pike Place. There’s plenty of sitting areas both inside and out, so next time you’re meeting with your Seattle tutor why not at Pike’s place, where you can grab a drink, sit down, and have plenty to do once the lesson is done!
