About Round Rock

Near the heart of Texas, you will find the city of Round Rock, located within the popular and modern metropolis of Austin. Only twenty miles from the capital city of Austin, residents of Round Rock love that they live so close, not only to have access to all of Austin’s big city assets, but also for work. Many residents of Round Rock commute to Austin every day for work, due to its conveniently close proximity.

Though Austin is known for being big in the technology industry, Round Rock follows close in its footsteps. As the headquarters for Dell, Round Rock receives a fair amount of international attention. Many local jobs are generated by Dell, along with other large international corporations located here in Round Rock. All of these local jobs in the technology industry help to stimulate the local economy, making Round Rock a really great place to live.

You may be wondering how Round Rock got its name. In a local creek, there was this famous, large, round rock. Back in the early 1800s when European settlers first arrived to this area on wagon trains and horseback, they searched for a safe place to cross this river. When they saw this large, round rock, they knew that the river wasn’t too deep at this point, and it signified a safe crossing. As a result, this round rock became quite famous in the area, and the town was named after it.

Interestingly enough, the city of Round Rock is considered to be a huge sports city, nicknamed the “Sports Capital of Texas”. With large stadiums throughout the city and many local sports leagues, this nickname makes sense. Baseball is big here in Round Rock, as the Pacific Coast baseball league considers Round Rock to be its home.

Considered to be one of the best school systems in the entire state of Texas, Round Rock takes pride in its local school district. Served by the Round Rock Independent School District, the city of Round Rock boasts high quality public schools, from elementary and middle school all the way up through high school level. Other than the public schools here, there are also private and charter schools in Round Rock. Parents are proud of the selection they have in choosing the right school for their children. For local students that require extra after school help, local Round Rock tutors are available to meet one-on-one and help each student with their problem subjects. These local tutors can assist each student in achieving educational success.
