Centrally located between Dallas and Fort Worth, Euless is part of the Mid-Cities group of suburbs occupying the thirty-mile gap between the two major Texas cities. Settled as a cotton plantation in 1879 by Elisha Adam Euless the area has steadily grown over the years while still preserving its earliest history including the restoration of three original buildings which can now be seen in Heritage Park. Fuller House, the first brick structure in town, Himes Log Cabin, one of the oldest buildings in the area, and McCormick Barn, constructed during World War II, all sit proudly in the park which conducts free tours each month and by special arrangement. For many years Euless remained a small community but since 1960 the population has grown twelvefold so that it is slightly larger than its sister communities Bedford and Hurst.
Elisha Euless came to Texas from Tennessee after the Civil War and settled in Tarrant County which makes up the area surrounding and including Fort Worth. In 1870 Euless married Judy Ann Trigg, also from Tennessee, and the next year bought 170 acres of land from his wife’s mother. He built a cotton gin and community center on the land, making it a prosperous settlement for local farmers. Not only was Euless a cotton farmer but he also served two terms as Tarrant County sheriff. He died in 1911 and is buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Fort Worth. His life is remembered by a state historical marker in the town which bears his name.
Right next door to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Euless is also driving distance from more than a few outstanding attractions. A Euless tutor will place you way ahead of the curve so you can enjoy the amenities of the metropolitan area. Among the twelve best things to do in Dallas-Fort Worth, according to U.S. News and World Report, include a visit to the Fort Worth Stockyards Historic District where the wild west truly comes alive. For history buffs a trip to the Sixth-Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza is a mandatory pilgrimage for those who wish to see the place where John F. Kennedy was assassinated in 1963.
For nature lovers, the Fort Worth Zoo is only 15 miles from downtown Euless. Opened in 1909, the zoo features white tigers, baby elephants, giraffes, gorillas and several other species of wildlife from across Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. Finally, for art lovers, the Kimbell Museum has a reputation as one of the best small museums in the world. Its collections span the globe and the arc of history with a particularly excellent collection of Medieval painting and sculpture.
Built in the middle of the nineteenth century, the Himes Log Cabin in Euless Heritage Park is one of the oldest existing structures in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex
